Question

Asked 1/29/2008

Is this a good idea for a web cam device invention?

It seems to me that one of the drawbacks with web video conferencing is simulating the "eye-to-eye" contact that we have in face to face meetings.
Usually my eyes are directed at my computer screen NOT the web camera and my counterpart is doing the same so if we are using big monitors it can be a bit disconcerting.

My question: is it technically feasible to build a monitor or peripheral device with the camera mounted UNDER the screen surface. I know car manufacturers can do amazing things with heads up displays and so on.

Seems to me that equipment such as I`ve suggested would really improve web cam usage rates.

Have you ever heard of laptops with built-in webcams? Mine has got a built-in webcam and when I use it as far as the person viewing it is concerned, I'm looking straight at them, eye-to-eye. So I think that computer manufacturers have already thought of that one and it is already in use.
